Af­ter ex­ten­sive plan­ning, Me­dia Co­op­er­a­tive Kansan Val­ta has de­cid­ed to com­plete­ly re­new Vi­ikko Po­hjois-Kar­jala, trans­form­ing it in­to a pub­li­ca­tion cov­er­ing the en­tire East­ern Fin­land re­gion for the So­cial De­mo­c­ra­t­ic Par­ty (SDP), un­der the new name Itä­suo­ma­lainen. This change sig­nif­i­cant­ly ex­pands its reach. The pa­per will now cov­er a whole new range of top­ics re­lat­ed to the every­day lives of East­ern Finnish peo­ple. Ad­di­tion­al­ly, new writ­ers and columns will fea­ture in the fu­ture edi­tions.

The re­new­al was car­ried out by build­ing en­tire­ly new NeoDi­rect on­line ser­vices, with a fo­cus on im­prov­ing web­site ac­ces­si­bil­i­ty and en­sur­ing that read­ers can be bet­ter served now and in the fu­ture.

The goal is to bring more di­verse con­tent to the me­dia land­scape of East­ern Fin­land and to present dif­fer­ent per­spec­tives on re­gion­al is­sues.
